CTBTO Spokesperson Annika Thunborg on the Anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings

Everyone should go to Hiroshima or Nagasaki at least once in their lifetime.  It is only by being there that you can start to understand the horrors of nuclear weapons.

It’s excellent that 190 countries committed themselves to a nuclear weapon free world in New York in May.  But what we need now is that they take action and one such concrete action is to bring the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban-Treaty in force.

The CTBT bans all nuclear explosions. It prevents the further development of nuclear weapons.  Over 180 countries have already signed up to this international norm. But we need nine specific countries to also ratify the Treaty so that it can enter into force.
