The first newsletter of 2011 was published by the Public Information section of the Preparatory Commision for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) on 25 January. CTBTO Newsletters gather international news about the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the scope and work of the CTBTO. They are distributed by e-mail to journalists and the media.
The 25 January newsletter’s lead stories covered the recent meeting of Presidents Hu Jintao of China and Barack Obama of the United States where support for the CTBT was reaffirmed, as well as the latest developments regarding the ratification process being set in motion in Indonesia.
Ratification of the “New START”, the op-ed by Mikhail Gorbachev in “The New York Times” on CTBT ratification and the statement by U.S. Defense Secretary Gates requesting that North Korea declares a moratorium on nuclear testing, are also included. Other stories cover news about the CTBTO, as well as newly released information and education material from the CTBTO. Links to relevant articles, documents and source material are provided on each story.
