Statement by the United States at the UN Conference on Disarmament

“The Obama Administration will continue to lay the groundwork for positive U.S. Senate consideration of the CTBT, working closely with the Senate, and to bolster international support for the Treaty,” U.S. Under-Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller underlined in a statement at the UN Conference on Disarmament (CD) in Geneva on 27 January.

Gottemoeller also emphasized that “the United States has increased its level of participation in all of the activities of the [CTBTO]”,  especially the verification regime including advancing the effectiveness of On-Site Inspections, and has assumed full responsibility for the costs of the 31 CTBTO monitoring stations in the United States.
