On Tuesday 10 May 2011, the Arms Control Association (ACA) holds its annual meeting in Washington D.C. The meeting will cover the Obama administration’s challenges towards nuclear disarmament. There will be two panels of experts and policy makers to explore issues related to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) [Panel 1] and nuclear arms reductions [Panel 2].
Ellen Tauscher, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security will address the meeting at 12:30 p.m. EST, talking on the following subject: “The Case for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty”
Other keynote speakers are Senators Robert Casey Jr. and Jeanne Shaheen.
Panel 1 on the CTBT (10:00 a.m. -12:00 EST) will host State Rep. Ryan D. Wilcox (R-Utah) talking on the national security value of the CTBT, Dr. Richard Garwin on stockpile stewardship without nuclear explosion testing, and Lynn R. Sykes on CTBT monitoring and verification.
