Media Advisory: Indonesian Parliament to ratify CTBT on 6 December

The Indonesian parliament will vote on the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) on 6 December in its morning session. The Defense and Foreign Policy Commission approved the draft legislation by consensus on 30 November. The ratification is a major step towards bringing the CTBT, which bans all nuclear explosions, into legal effect. The Treaty effectively hampers both the first-time development of nuclear weapons as well as the enhancement of existing arsenals.

Items of media interest:
• Media door stop interview with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, the Chairman of the First Commission, Mahfudz Siddiq, and CTBTO Executive Secretary Tibor Tóth at the Indonesian parliament directly after the ratification decision (session starts at 09:00 local time, CTBT is second item on the agenda).

• Press Conference with Minister Marty Natalegawa and Executive Secretary Tibor Tóth at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 15:25 local time.

CTBTO Public Information will provide loosely-cut video material on Indonesia’s ratification, including interviews with key players for download at:
