AAAS Experts’ Workshop on CTBT Verification

Founded in 1848 in the United States, AAAS serves some 261 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) organized the “Workshop on Advances in Nuclear-Test Monitoring and Verification” in Washington, D.C. on 24-25 September – coinciding with the 16th anniversary from the opening of the CTBT for signature.

Leading experts on arms control verification Richard Garwin, Paul Richards and Ray Willeman gave some in depth analysis presentations and also commented on the findings of the April report on the CTBT by the U.S. National Academy of Scientists. The CTBTO was represented by IDC Director Lassina Zerbo and Robert Werzi, head of the IMS Monitoring Facilities Support Section’s Maintenance Unit, who also gave presentations.

Yesterday, the AAAS released a summary of what was discussed in the workshop. Find the summary here.
