CTBTO Executive Secretary meets Japanese Foreign Minister, visits Hiroshima and Nagasaki

The head of the CTBTO, Lassina Zerbo, has been invited by the Japanese government for his first official visit to the country. During his week-long visit from Monday 18 November, Zerbo will meet with Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and other high-ranking officials, including the heads of the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Japan Weather Association and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.

Zerbo will also visit the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where he will pay tribute to the bombing memorials and meet with survivors of the atomic bombings. He will also meet with the governors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki provinces and the mayors of both cities.

Japan is one of the first countries to sign and ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. The country hosts ten fully operational CTBT monitoring stations. For more on Japan’s cooperation with the CTBTO see here.
