2014 International Day Against Nuclear Tests in Vienna International Centre’s Rotunda

On 29 August, the International Day against Nuclear Tests was marked in the Vienna International Centre’s Rotunda with a reception organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna.  The day was also the last of the exhibition featuring posters provided by Atom Project and paintings from Doug Waterfield’s ‘Doomstown’ series.

Short addresses by CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the UN Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the UN and the Chairperson of CTBTO Ambassador Dato’ Selwyn Vijayarajan Das and artist Doug Waterfield have concluded the event.

CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo’s statement on International Day against Nuclear Tests:

“Today, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) represents an international norm against nuclear testing. However, it has not yet entered into force. Today serves as a reminder that banning nuclear testing remains unfinished business.”

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon message for International Day against Nuclear Tests:

“Together, let us demand an end to all nuclear tests, get on with the unfinished business of achieving a world free of nuclear weapons and usher in a safer and more prosperous future.”
