“My heartfelt congratulations to Alexander Kmentt for winning this year’s Arms Control Person of the Year Award. He truly deserves this credit for the success in organizing the conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons last December, which has created new political momentum towards the elimination of nuclear weapons. Alexander Kmentt ensured that the horrific consequences of nuclear testing and the entry into force of the CTBT played a prominent role at the conference. His years of dedicated service in the organization are fondly remembered. The CTBTO is grateful for the amazing support it enjoys from Austria as its host country.”
From 2006 until 2011, Alexander Kmentt worked as Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary at the CTBTO before becoming Deputy Director and later Director for Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and Disarmament at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
