Our WMD treaties are working

This article by Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists reviews the history of existing WMD treaties such as the CTBT, NPT and the Iran nuclear agreement. The author, Paul Meyer, writes that “there is no doubt that the CTBT has significantly strengthened the global norm against any further nuclear testing” and further states that “the history of the CTBT shows the powerful influence of a norm-setting treaty on state behavior – even when it has not formally taken effect”. He highlights the importance of organisations that support, promote and enforce multilateral accords, and sees their work as contributing positively towards global security.
