On 7 January, under the Slovakian Chairmanship, the OSCE held a Forum for Security Co-operation in Vienna. The Forum discussed the 2004 United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and gave voice to international actors, such as the OSCE and CTBTO, that are supporting the implementation of the resolution. Ambassador Maria Assunta Accili Sabbatini said that the “CTBT is a major building block of the current multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation architecture” while CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo stated that “[t]he strengthened co-operation between the CTBTO and the OSCE can be a force multiplier.” Zerbo went on to express appreciation for the fact that “the OSCE has initiated the concept of a strategic dialogue to address divergent regional and global threat perceptions.” Read the full article here
