UN Secretary-General and Australian Foreign Minister Rudd Speak to the Press after Ministerial Meeting in support of CTBT

“The path toward nuclear disarmament means an end to nuclear test explosions and an end to the development of nuclear weapons,” Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, told journalists after the fifth ministerial meeting on promoting the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Urging all governments that have not yet done so to sign and ratify the CTBT without further delay, Ban Ki-moon repeated his call for the international community to bring the Treaty into force by 2012.

We must aim for a world in which the CTBT is honored by all, Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd told journalists after chairing the Ministerial Meeting.

“We believe that the national security interests of not only the US, its allies and friends, but of the world at large would be enhanced by this Treaty coming into force,” Rudd said.
